IMD Issues Weather Alerts: Heatwaves & Thunderstorms Across India

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings regarding severe weather patterns anticipated throughout the country. Certain regions are expected to endure heatwaves, while others will likely experience thunderstorms and hailstorms in the near future.

In Gujarat and Rajasthan, the IMD has cautioned residents about impending severe heatwave conditions. Temperatures are projected to increase significantly, with these hot conditions persisting until April 8th. Additionally, states such as Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh may also encounter warmer-than-normal weather in the upcoming months.

An orange alert has been issued for parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana due to the forecast of thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. Wind speeds could reach 40-50 kmph, accompanied by heavy rainfall in certain areas.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry until April 6th. Furthermore, central and eastern regions of India, including Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, may experience scattered showers along with thunderstorms.

The IMD forecasts a temperature increase of 3-5°C across Northwest India in the coming days. Experts have indicated that the summer of 2025 may be unusually hot, with an increase in the frequency of heatwave days expected from April to June.
